Atlanta Open: Qualifier Shang reaches semi-finals

Chinese qualifier Juncheng Shang reached the last four of the Atlanta Open by beating Australian Max Purcell, the No 8 seed, 7-6 (3), 6-4 at the Atlanta Athletic Club on Friday night.
Shang, ranked No 89, will face Australian Jordan Thompson, the No 4 seed, next.
The 19-year-old Chinese won against American wildcard Andres Martin (6-1, 6-1) and American Ben Shelton, the top seed (7-6 (6), 6-4) ahead of his victory.
Earlier in the tournament, Purcell, ranked No 66, defeated Christopher O’Connell (4-6, 7-5, 6-2) and Belgian David Goffin (6-3, 6-3).
