Atlanta Open: Purcell beats Goffin in straight sets to reach last eight
The eighth-seeded Aussie will play Chinese qualifier Juncheng Shang in the next round

Australian Max Purcell, the No 8 seed, defeated former top 10 player David Goffin 6-3, 6-3 to move into the last eight of the Atlanta Open at the Atlanta Athletic Club on Thursday.
Purcell, ranked No 66, will next face Chinese qualifier Juncheng Shang, who upset top seed Ben Shelton, in another second-round match on Thursday.
The Australian won against Christopher O’Connell (4-6, 7-5, 6-2) in the previous round of the tournament while Goffin, now ranked No 98, beat Canadian wildcard Denis Shapovalov (6-4, 3-6, 6-1).
