Atlanta Open: Nishioka wins the title

Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka won the Atlanta Open title by defeating Australian Jordan Thompson, the No 4 seed, 4-6, 7-6 (2), 6-2 at the Atlanta Athletic Club on Sunday evening.
Ahead of his victory, Nishioka, ranked No 86, beat American qualifier Zachary Svajda (7-6 (4), 6-3), American Mackenzie McDonald (6-3, 6-4), American Frances Tiafoe, the No 3 seed (7-6 (2), 6-2) and Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech (6-3, 4-6, 6-4).
Thompson, ranked No 41, beat French lucky loser Harold Mayot (6-2, 7-5), Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, the No 5 seed (7-6 (5), 4-6, 6-3) and Chinese qualifier Juncheng Shang (6-3, 4-6, 6-3) earlier in the tournament.
