Atlanta Open: Nishioka reaches last 8

Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka defeated American Mackenzie McDonald 6-3, 6-4 to reach the quarter-finals of the Atlanta Open at the Atlanta Athletic Club on Thursday evening.

Nishioka, ranked No 86, will play the winner of the match between Russian Aslan Karatsev and American Frances Tiafoe, the No 3 seed, next.

The Japanese won against American qualifier Zachary Svajda (7-6 (4), 6-3) in the previous round of the Atlanta Open.

During the first round of the Atlanta Open, McDonald, ranked No 97, won against No 7 seed Brandon Nakashima (6-2, 6-4).
