“At this stage of my career, I’m balancing my private and professional schedule” – Djokovic on Miami withdrawal
The world No 1 issues a statement on social media to explain his withdrawal from Miami
World No 1 Novak Djokovic put his decision to pulling out of next week’s Miami Open down to the need to balance his private and professional schedule.
Earlier this week, the 24-time Grand Slam champion pulled out of Miami soon after losing in the third round of the Indian Wells Masters to 123rd ranked Luca Nardi.
On Saturday, the Serb posted a statement on social media in which he explained his decision.
“Hi Miami! Unfortunately I won’t be playing the @MiamiOpen this year,” the Serb said. “At this stage of my career, I’m balancing my private and professional schedule. I’m sorry that I won’t experience some of the best and most passionate fans in the world. I’m looking forward to competing in MI in future!”
Djokovic has won the tournament on six occasions but the last time he played there was in 2019.
