Astana Open: Medjedovic beats Shevchenko to book spot in last eight

Serb wildcard Hamad Medjedovic won against Russian wildcard Alexander Shevchenko 6-4, 6-4 to move into the last 8 of the Astana Open at the Daulet National Tennis Center.

Medjedovic, ranked No 120, will face No 4 seed Jiri Lehecka next.

In the previous round of the Nur-Sultan tournament, the 20-year-old Serb benefited from the abandonment of No 7 seed Laslo Djere (6-3, 2-1).

Shevchenko, ranked No 85, beat Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp (6-4, 6-3) during the first round of the Nur-Sultan tournament.
