Astana Open: Korda beats Medjedovic in thriller to book spot in final
Sebastian Korda edged out Hamad Medjedovic 6-7 (8), 7-6 (2), 7-6 (3) on Monday and will face the winner of the match between Austrian Sebastian Ofner and Frenchman Adrian Mannarino, the No 6 seed, for the title
American Sebastian Korda, the No 5 seed, reached the final of the Astana Open by edging out Serb wildcard Hamad Medjedovic 6-7 (8), 7-6 (2), 7-6 (3) at the Daulet National Tennis Center on Monday.
Korda, ranked No 28, will play the winner of the match between Austrian Sebastian Ofner and Frenchman Adrian Mannarino, the No 6 seed, next.
The American beat Australian Alexei Popyrin (7-6 (5), 6-7 (4), 6-4), Portuguese Nuno Borges (6-4, 7-6 (4)) and Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor, the top seed (6-4, 4-6, 6-3) in the previous rounds of the Nur-Sultan tournament.
Earlier in the tournament, Medjedovic, ranked No 120, won against No 7 seed Laslo Djere (6-3, 2-1 ret.), Russian wildcard Alexander Shevchenko (6-4, 6-4) and No 4 seed Jiri Lehecka (6-3, 6-4).
