Argentina Open: Norrie books spot in second final of the year
Cameron Norrie defeated Juan Pablo Varillas 7-6 (5), 6-4 on Saturday and will play the winner of the match between top seed Carlos Alcaraz and Bernabe Zapata Miralles in the final
Second seed Cameron Norrie won against Peruvian qualifier Juan Pablo Varillas 7-6 (5), 6-4 to reach the final of the Argentina Open at the Buenos Aires Lawn Tennis Club on Saturday.
This is Norrie’s second final of the year, following his run in Auckland.
It is his fourth career final on clay court, following his win in Lyon in 2022, and finals in 2021 in Lyon and Estoril.
Norrie, ranked No 12, will face the winner of the match between top seed Carlos Alcaraz and Bernabe Zapata Miralles next.
Earlier in the tournament, Cameron Norrie edged out Argentinian wildcard Facundo Diaz Acosta (4-6, 7-5, 7-6 (6)) and defeated Argentinian Tomas Martin Etcheverry (5-7, 6-0, 6-3).
Varillas, ranked No 101, beat Portuguese João Sousa (6-2, 7-5), Austrian wildcard Dominic Thiem (6-4, 6-4) and Italian Lorenzo Musetti, the No 3 seed (6-4, 6-4) in the previous rounds of the Buenos Aires Open.
