Almaty Open: Shevchenko battles past Karatsev to book spot in last eight
Alexander Shevchenko edged out Aslan Karatsev 6-1, 6-7 (5), 7-5. He’ll play Argentinian Francisco Cerundolo, the No 4 seed, in the next round

Kazakh Alexander Shevchenko moved into the quarter-finals of the Almaty Open by edging out Russian qualifier Aslan Karatsev 6-1, 6-7 (5), 7-5 at Almaty Arena.
Shevchenko, ranked No 61, will play Argentinian Francisco Cerundolo, the No 4 seed, next.
The Kazakh beat qualifier Mikhail Kukushkin (7-6 (5), 7-6 (4)) ahead of his victory.
In the previous round of the Almaty tournament, Karatsev, ranked No 139, won against Chinese Zhizhen Zhang, the No 6 seed (6-4, 7-6 (2)).
