Almaty Open: Mannarino stages comeback against Safiullin in first round
Adrian Mannarino recovered from a set and a break down against Russian Roman Safiullin on Tuesday
Frenchman Adrian Mannarino, the No 8 seed, beat Russian Roman Safiullin 5-7, 7-6 (4), 6-3 to advance to the second round of the Almaty Open at Almaty Arena on Tuesday.
Mannarino recovered from a set and a break down to beat Safiullin in two hours, 46 minutes.
The Frenchman hit 27 winners and converted three break points, also benefitting from the Russian’s 44 unforced errors to advance.
Mannarino, ranked No 56, will face the winner of the match between James Duckworth and Aleksandar Vukic next.
