Alcaraz adds Samuel Lopez to his coaching team
Lopez most recently worked with Spanish tennis player Pablo Carreno Busta
World No 3 Carlos Alcaraz has added Samuel Lopez to his coaching team. Lopez will work alongside Juan Carlos Ferrero, who has been the main coach for Alcaraz since he was 15.
Lopez was also a member of the Spanish Olympic team in 2000 and 2012 and has coached several players in the past.
“I think Samuel, for me, is one of the best coaches that we have on tour,” Alcaraz said Tuesday in New York where he will play Ben Shelton in an exhibition match at the Madison Square Garden.
“They trust each other 100 percent and being able to travel with both, for me, it’s going to be great. I think I’m going to grow as a player thanks to them. I think we are going to work pretty hard and pretty good for the next season and the next years. Hopefully we are going to make good results together.”
Lopez, who earlier coached Ferrero, Guillermo García Lopez, Santiago Ventura and Mariusz Fyrstenberg, was most recently working with Pablo Carreno Busta, but the pair announced their decision to go their separate ways after nine years earlier this week.
