Adelaide International: Draper upsets eighth seed Paul to set up revenge clash against Khachanov
Jack Draper is 0-2 lifetime against Khachanov, who also beat him last week
Young British player Jack Draper upset American Tommy Paul, the No 8 seed, 6-4, 6-4 on Wednesday to reach the quarter-finals of the ATP Adelaide International at Memorial Drive Tennis Centre.
Ahead of his win over Paul, Draper had defeated against Italian Lorenzo Sonego (6-4, 6-2) while Paul, five spots above at No 35, defeated Australian lucky loser Christopher O’Connell (6-4, 7-5) in his Adelaide opener.
Draper looking for first win over Khachanov in third meeting
Draper, ranked No 40 in the world, will play third seeded Karen Khachanov, of Russia, in the last eight. The Russian scored a 6-4, 6-4 win over Swiss Marc-Andrea Huesler and Russian Karen Khachanov, the No 3 seed, next.
Draper will be looking to avenge his loss to Khachanov from last week at the Adelaide 1 event and the 2022 US Open in September.
The Russian defeated the Brit 6-4, 6-2 last week and was leading in their third round clash at Flushing Meadows 6-3, 4-6, 6-5 when Draper retired.
