ATP rankings – Opelka equals career-high, Goffin surges, Americans on the rise
The top 10 was unchanged, but plenty of players made big rankings jumps this week, including David Goffin and Reilly Opelka
There was no change in the ATP’s top 10 in this week’s newly released rankings, but plenty of shifting about in the top 100, as Marrakech title winner David Goffin surged back into the top 50 and four Americans – led by Houston champ Reilly Opelka – jumped up to career-high spots.
Americans on the rise
Reilly Opelka led the charge for Team USA, rising back to his career-high ranking of No 17 thanks to his fourth career title at Houston, but it was a big week across the board for American tennis in the ATP rankings.
Frances Tiafoe (28), Tommy Paul (33) and Jenson Brooksby (35) all inched up to new career-high rankings. That makes a total of five Americans all aged 24 or younger inside the ATP’s top 35.
John Isner also jumped, the 36-year-old former world No 8 rising four spots to 23 after his runner-up performance in Houston.
Biggest riser – David Goffin
David Goffin claimed his sixth career title at Marrakech, and is rewarded with the biggest rankings jump inside the ATP’s top 100. The 31-year-old Belgian, a former world No 7, rises 27 spots from 74 to 47.
There were four other players inside the top 100 who jumped at least 10 rankings spots, led by Nick Kyrgios, who climbed 17 spots from 94 to 77. The Aussie was a semi-finalist at Houston.
Alex Molcan of Slovakia, the runner-up at Marrakech, moves 15 spots from 65 to a career-high 50, while San Remo Challenger champion Holger Rune rises 12 spots to a career-high 79.
Tomas Martin Etcheverry of Argentina jumped 11 to No 95, making his top 100 debut.
