ATP rankings: De Minaur replaces Rublev to become No 8; Nishikori returns to top 100
The first update of 2025 also saw Mpetshi Perricard and Alexandre Muller touch career-high level
The ATP rankings received their first update of 2025 on Monday (January 6), seeing Australia’s Alex de Minaur replace Russian Andrey Rublev to become the world No 8. In another big update, Japan’s Kei Nishikori returned to top 100 since June 2022.
Rublev dropped 280 points following a loss to Hungary’s Fabian Marozsan at the Hong Kong Open in his opener while defending his title, allowing de Minaur, a former world No 6, to move up.
Nishikori, on the other hand, jumped 32 spots to reach the 74th spot on the back of a runner-up performance at the ATP 250 event in Hong Kong. He lost the final to Frenchman Alexandre Muller 2-6, 6-1, 6-3 on Sunday.
