Nishioka knocks out Tiafoe to make Dallas quarter-finals

Japanese left-hander Yoshihito Nishioka defeated American Frances Tiafoe, the No 5 seed, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 to move into the last eight of the Dallas Open at the Ford Center at The Star on Thursday.
Nishioka converted three of five break points and won more than half of his second-serve return points while advancing in two hours and five minutes.
“I didn’t know how I beat [him] today,” Nishioka during his post-match press conference, referencing his slow start. “I got a little bit tired [in] my body so I cannot run like usual…. I wasn’t expected to win today, but I found a way for the second set.”
Nishioka, ranked No 67, will play Norwegian Casper Ruud, the second seed, next.
In the previous round of the Dallas tournament, Nishioka beat American Brandon Nakashima 6-4, 7-6 (6).
Tiafoe, ranked No 18, edged out Japan’s Taro Daniel 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 in the opening round.
