Wuhan Open: Zheng fights back to knock out Fernandez and reach last eight

Chinese Qinwen Zheng, the No 5 seed, beat Canadian Leylah Fernandez 5-7, 6-3, 6-0 to advance to the last eight of the Wuhan Open at the Optics Valley International Tennis Center.

Zheng, ranked No 7, will play Italian Jasmine Paolini, the No 3 seed, next.

The 22-year-old Chinese won against Romanian wildcard Jaqueline Cristian (6-2, 6-4) ahead of her victory.

In the previous rounds of the Wuhan tournament, Fernandez, ranked No 28, defeated Russian Diana Shnaider, the No 12 seed (6-7 (7), 6-3, 6-3) and edged out Russian lucky loser Kamilla Rakhimova (6-2, 5-7, 7-6 (4)).
