Wuhan Open: Kostyuk makes last 16

Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk, the No 13 seed, advanced to the last 16 of the Wuhan Open after American Amanda Anisimova withdrew before the match on Wednesday at the Optics Valley International Tennis Center.

Kostyuk, ranked No 17, will play the winner of the match between American Coco Gauff, the No 4 seed, and Bulgarian Viktoriya Tomova next.

The 22-year-old Ukrainian edged out Armenian Elina Avanesyan (4-6, 7-5, 7-6 (2)) in the previous round of the Wuhan tournament.

In the previous round of the Wuhan tournament, Anisimova, ranked No 39, won against Spanish qualifier Cristina Bucsa (6-2, 6-4).
