WTA Rankings: Swiatek remains on top; Zheng climbs to 24th position

Budapest champion Maria Timofeeva climbs more than 100 spots to rise to no 129 in the rankings

Poland’s Iga Swiatek remained on top of the WTA rankings in a low-key post-Wimbledon week which sees in no change in this week’s top 20.

Swiatek, who is back in action this week in her home event in Warsaw, continues to hold a 470-point lead over closest rival Aryna Sabalenka, of Belarus. Elena Rybakina, the other player in the 2023 WTA Big 3, remains at No 3, followed by Jessica Pegula at No 4, Caroline Garcia at No 5, Ons Jabeur at No 6, Coco Gauff at No 7, newly-married Petra Kvitova at No 8, Maria Sakkari at No 9, and Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova at No 10.

Outside the top 20, China’s Qinwen Zheng climbs two spots to No 24 after winning her first WTA singles title in Palermo. Budapest winner Maria Timofeeva, who had never played a WTA level match prior to her surprise run to the title as a lucky loser, skyrockets 117 spots to No 129 in the world.

Palermo runner-up Jasmine Paolini moves up five spots to no 47; Budapest semi-finalist Nadia Podoroska climbs 14 spots to No 66; Budapest runner-up Kateryna Baindl moves up 23 spots to No 77; and 23-year-old American Kayla Day climbs up 31 spots to no 94 after points from her ITF $100K title in Granby get added.
