WTA Hobart: Maria advances as Podoroska retires after injury
Tatjana Maria benefited from the retirement of Nadia Podoroska (6-1, 4-3) on Tuesday and will play Bulgarian lucky loser Viktoriya Tomova in the next round
German Tatjana Maria, the No 9 seed, reached the second round of the Hobart International when Argentinian lucky loser Nadia Podoroska retired at the Hobart’s Domain Tennis Centre on Tuesday.
Maria, ranked No 42, led 6-1, 4-3 when Podoroska, ranked No 63, pulled out on Tuesday at the Hobart’s Domain Tennis Centre.
The 36-year-old German will play Bulgarian lucky loser Viktoriya Tomova next.
