WTA adds 4 tournaments to post US Open swing; WTA Finals status yet to be confirmed

The WTA Tour has released its updated calendar for the 2021 season, which confirms the line-up of events in the post US Open swing.

As per the revised calendar, there will be at least 10 WTA events after the US Open, and these events will span across the WTA 250, 500 and 1000 levels.

The post US Open-swing sees four new events being added to the WTA calendar – a WTA 250 event in Portoroz (Slovenia), a WTA 500 event in Chicago (USA), a WTA 250 event in Tenerife (Spain) and a WTA 250 event in Courmayeur (Italy).

The BNP Paribas Open, a joint ATP and WTA event held in Indian Wells, which was the first event to be cancelled in 2020 due to the pandemic, is also confirmed on the schedule for the week of October 4 and 11.

Last year, only two WTA events were held post the French Open, which was moved to the end of September due to the global pandemic.

The status of the season-ending WTA Finals, scheduled to be held in Shenzhen, China, remains undecided as of now with an update on the same expected in the coming weeks.
