Karolina Pliskova, who reached the finals at Wimbledon 12 months ago, is through to meet either Czech Katerina Siniakova or Canadian Bianca Andreescu in the second round
Czech Karolina Pliskova, the No 4 seed, had a rather interesting day at the office at the Berlin Open.
The former world No 1 lost the first set of her opening round match against Estonian veteran Kaia Kanepi 7-6 but then bounced back to sweep the next 12 games in a row.
By the end of the one hour and 44 minute contest, Pliskova had struck 17 aces sand saved all eight break point chances against her serve to come through 6-7 [5], 6-0, 6-0.
The current world No 7, who lost to Ash Barty in the final at Wimbledon last year, will meet either countrywoman Katerina Siniakova or Canada’s Bianca Andreescu in the second round.
