Armenian Elina Avanesyan beat Italian wildcard Elisabetta Cocciaretto 7-6 (6), 6-1 to advance to the second round of the Monterrey Open at Sonoma Club on Tuesday night.
Avanesyan, ranked No 51, will play No 5 seed Elina Svitolina next.
