Indian Wells: Kerber plays out of her skin to defeat Ostapenko
Angelique Kerber won against Jelena Ostapenko 5-7, 6-3, 6-3 on Friday evening. She’ll face the winner of the match between Japanese qualifier Nao Hibino and Russian Veronika Kudermetova, the No 17 seed, in the next round
German Angelique Kerber reached the third round of the Indian Wells by winning against Latvian Jelena Ostapenko, the No 10 seed, 5-7, 6-3, 6-3 at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden on Friday evening.
The win was Kerber’s first top 10 scalp as a mother, with the German saying on-court after the match, “You know guys, being here playing in front of you is just great. This is why I’m back. Because I have the emotions. I see you guys. Thank you guys for the best support.”

Ahead of her victory, the 36-year-old German beat Croat Petra Martic (6-3, 6-4).
