Hong Kong Open: Zakharova reaches quarter-finals after 12th consecutive win
The Russian upset seventh seed Varvara Gracheva 6-3, 6-1 in the second round on Thursday
Russian Anastasia Zakharova moved into the quarter-finals of the Hong Kong Open by winning against Frenchwoman Varvara Gracheva, the No 7 seed, 6-3, 6-1 at Victoria Park, Causeway Bay on Thursday.
Zakharova, ranked No 113, is now on a 12-match winning streak. She won back-to-back ITF titles earlier this month. The Russian will play second seed Katie Boulter next for a spot in the semi-finals.
In the previous round of the tournament, the 22-year-old Russian defeated lucky loser Su Jeong Jang (7-5, 6-4).
Gracheva, ranked No 66, beat Russian qualifier Tatiana Prozorova (2-6, 7-5, 6-2) earlier in the week.
