Russian Elina Avanesyan, the No 6 seed, won against German Tamara Korpatsch 6-4, 7-6 (3) to advance to the second round of the Cluj-Napoca Open at the BTarena on Tuesday afternoon.
Avanesyan, ranked No 61, will play Latvian Anastasija Sevastova next.
