Canadian Open: Samsonova makes last 16

Russian Liudmila Samsonova, the No 15 seed, beat Chinese Qinwen Zheng 6-3, 6-2 to advance to the last 16 of the Canadian Open at Stade IGA in Montreal on Wednesday evening.
Samsonova, ranked No 18, will face the winner of the match between Croat Petra Martic and Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, the second seed, next.
In the previous round of the Rogers Cup, the Russian won against Katerina Siniakova (4-6, 6-2, 6-3).
Zheng, ranked No 24, won against Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk (6-2, 1-6, 6-3) during the first round of the Rogers Cup.
