Chinese Lin Zhu moved into the last 16 of the Birmingham Open by beating Romanian Sorana Cirstea, the No 3 seed, 7-6 (2), 6-2 at Edgbaston Priory Club.
Zhu, ranked No 54, will play Australian Ajla Tomljanovic next.
