Australian Maya Joint, the No 8 seed, beat American Hanna Chang 6-1, 6-2 to reach the last eight of the WTA $125K Abierto Tampico on Wednesday.
Joint, ranked No 110, will play the winner of the match between Canadian Rebecca Marino and Argentinian Maria Lourdes Carle, the No 3 seed, next.
The 18-year-old Australian won against French wildcard Elsa Jacquemot (6-3, 6-4) ahead of her win today.
In the previous round, Chang, ranked No 197, won against Pole Maja Chwalinska (6-3, 6-1).
