Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia, the No 20 seed, reached the second round of Wimbledon by beating Pole Magdalena Frech 7-5, 6-3 at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.
Haddad Maia, ranked No 20, will face Colombian Camila Osorio next.
