Rafael Nadal has suffered a 7mm tear in his abdominal muscles, according to reports in Spain.
Sports newspaper Marca says that the 22-time Grand Slam champion underwent medical tests in London on Thursday morning – hence his absence from the Wimbledon practice courts.
But he still intends to play his semi-final on Friday against Nick Kyrgios as he continues his quest for a calendar Grand Slam.
Nadal was suffering from the injury during his quarter-final against Taylor Fritz, and required treatment.
Novak Djokovic won the 2021 Australian Open with a tear in his abdominal oblique muscle – bizarrely also sustained against Fritz, in the third round of that tournament.
