US Open: Shang surges into third round to face Ruud

Chinese Juncheng Shang advanced to the third round of the US Open by beating Spaniard Roberto Carballes Baena 6-2, 6-3, 7-6 (2) at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York on Wednesday.
Shang, ranked No 72, will next face Norwegian Casper Ruud, the No 8 seed, who defeated Frenchman Gael Monfils in another second round clash.
In the previous round of the US Open, the 19-year-old Chinese won against Kazakh Alexander Bublik, the No 27 seed (6-4, 3-6, 5-7, 6-3, 6-4).
Carballes Baena, ranked No 55, won against qualifier Jan Choinski (6-2, 6-3, 5-7, 6-7 (5), 6-3) in the previous round of the US Open.
