US Open: Kyrgios advances to second round; to meet Bonzi next

Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios defeated fellow Aussie and close friend Thanasi Kokkinakis in straight sets to advance to the second round of the US Open in New York City on Tuesday night.

Kyrgios needed two hours and one minute to defeat his doubles partner 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 (4). The 23rd seeded Australian will next meet Frenchman Benjamin Bonzi.

Kyrgios slammed 14 aces during the win and did not face a single break point during the entire match, while he converted two of five break point chances on the Kokkinakis serve. The Australian also won 87 percent of his first serve points and 78 percent of his second serve points.

The compatriots, who combined to win the Australian Open doubles title together earlier in the season, are playing doubles together this fortnight as well. They are seeded eighth and play Hugo Gaston and Lorenzo Musetti in the first round.
