US Open: Qualifier Gojo beats Vesely in straight sets to make last 16
Borna Gojo defeated Jiri Vesely 6-4, 6-3, 6-2 and will play the winner of the match between Djere and second seed Novak Djokovic in the next round
Croat qualifier Borna Gojo reached the last 16 of the US Open by beating Jiri Vesely 6-4, 6-3, 6-2 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
Gojo, ranked No 105, will face the winner of the match between No 32 seed Laslo Djere and second seed Novak Djokovic next.
The Croat won against Hugo Dellien (6-3, 6-3, 6-1) and American Mackenzie McDonald (6-3, 6-4, 6-4) earlier in the tournament.
In the previous rounds of the Flushing Meadows tournament, Vesely, ranked No 437, won against French qualifier Enzo Couacaud (5-7, 6-3, 6-2, 3-6, 6-4) and Argentinian Francisco Cerundolo, the No 20 seed (7-6 (5), 6-2, 3-6, 2-6, 7-6 (6)).
