US Open: Garcia wins 11th match in a row to set up fourth-round against Riske-Amritraj
Caroline Garcia defeated Bianca Andreescu 6-3, 6-2 on Friday night and will face American Alison Riske-Amritraj, the No 29 seed, in the next round
Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia, the No 17 seed, advanced to the last 16 of the US Open with a straight sets win over 2019 champion Bianca Andreescu in New York City on Friday night.
Garcia won 6-3, 6-2 in one hour and 27 minutes to reach the fourth round at Flushing Meadows for the first time in 10 main draw appearances.
Garcia, who came into the tournament having won the WTA 1000 event in Cincinnati as a qualifier, has now extended her winning streak to 11 matches. She has not dropped a set in her three matches in New York this week, beating Russian lucky loser Kamilla Rakhimova 6-2, 6-4 and Russian Anna Kalinskaya 6-3, 6-1 in her first two rounds.
Ranked No 17, the Frenchwoman will next face American Alison Riske-Amritraj, the No 29 seed, for a place in her second Grand Slam quarter-final.
