US Open: Evans untroubled in first round

No 26 seed Daniel Evans moved into the second round of the US Open by winning against Colombian Daniel Elahi Galan 6-4, 6-2, 7-5 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York on Tuesday evening.

The Brit outplayed his Columbian opponent in almost every aspect except for the ace count, with Galan thundering down 12 unreturnables that kept him in the match at times. Evans, however, struck 36 winners to 23 unforced errors, winning 80 percent of first serve points to claim the straight sets victory.

Evans, ranked No 28, will play Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp next, who benefited from the retirement of Jordan Thompson earlier today.
