Pegula books spot in Roland-Garros quarter-finals, gets Swiatek next
Jessica Pegula defeated Irina-Camelia Begu 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 on Monday at Roland-Garros. She will play Iga Swiatek, who defeated Qinwen Zheng, in the quarter-finals on Wednesday.
American Jessica Pegula, the No 11 seed, defeated Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 to move into the quarter-finals of the French Open on Monday.
Pegula, ranked No 11, will go up against top-seeded Iga Swiatek after the Pole defeated Qinwen Zheng in three sets during fourth-round action on Monday.
Prior to Monday’s result for Pegula, the American won against Chinese Qiang Wang (6-2, 6-4), Ukrainian Anhelina Kalinina (6-1, 5-7, 6-4) and Slovenian Tamara Zidansek, the No 24 seed (6-1, 7-6 [2]).
Begu, ranked No 63, beat Italian Jasmine Paolini (4-6, 6-1, 7-6 [5]), Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova, the No 30 seed (6-7 [3], 6-3, 6-4) and Frenchwoman wildcard Leolia Jeanjean (6-1, 6-4) in the previous rounds of the French Open.
