“I have to take him on Tour” – De Minaur on his biggest fan
Alex de Minaur is celebrating his first quarter-final at Roland-Garros, and is grateful for the support of his rowdy young fan
Alex de Minaur acknowledged that a lot of hard work has gone into making him the kind of player who can reach the last eight of a Grand Slam.
But he also appreciates the support of his fans – particularly the young man who became famous within the tennis world for his unrelenting backing to help the Aussie through his last round against Jan-Lennard Struff.
And he was there again today to see De Minaur become the first Australian man in 20 years to reach the quarter-finals of Roland-Garros.
“He’s managed a miracle,” De Minaur said to press afterwards. “Might have to get him on tour week in week out!
“We found him obviously through the beautiful world of social media…it was great to see him out there. Even on that big court I could still hear him after every single point.”
De Minaur added that the young fan had attended with several others – “his mates and his coach” – and would of course return for the quarter-final.
“I think he’ll be, you know, chilling with me tomorrow in my practice day, and of course he’ll be there
for the very next match,” De Minaur concluded.
