Who are the defending champions at Roland-Garros?
In the women’s singles, Iga Swiatek won her fourth Roland-Garros title, beating Jasmine Paolini 6-2, 6-1 in a one-sided final to clinch her third consecutive title at the tournament and her fifth Grand Slam in total.
Swiatek dismantled all of her opponents en route to the title apart from Naomi Osaka in the second round, when she faced a match point on Osaka’s serve before breaking and completing an incredible turnaround victory.
From that point, she was unstoppable, winning the title by dropping just 11 games across her next five matches.
Paolini sensationally made her first ever Grand Slam final at Roland-Garros 2024. She had never been past the second round of a major before this season before the Italian made the last four of the Australian Open in January. She then went several steps further by making her maiden Grand Slam final in Paris, beating Mirra Andreeva in the semi-finals.
Carlos Alcaraz faced Alexander Zverev in the men’s final after the German beat Casper Ruud to reach his first Roland-Garros final.
In a first-time Roland-Garros final for both players, Alcaraz beat Zverev in a five-set thriller to clinch his first French Open title and his third Grand Slam title.
