WTA Toronto: Sabalenka into last eight to face Anisimova, completes QF line-up
The Belarusian defeated Katie Boulter 6-3, 6-3 in the round of 16 on Friday
Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, the second seed, reached the quarter-finals of the WTA National Bank Open by beating Katie Boulter 6-3, 6-3 at the Aviva Centre in Toronto on Friday.
Sabalenka, ranked No 3, will face American Amanda Anisimova next. The two-time Australian Open champion could move back to No 2 in the rankings if she reaches the final this week in Toronto.
The Belarusian, who was forced to pull out of Wimbledon due to a shoulder injury, won against Chinese Yue Yuan (6-2, 6-2) earlier in the tournament.
Boulter, ranked No 33, won against American qualifier Bernarda Pera (6-4, 3-6, 6-1) and Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia, the No 13 seed (1-1 ret.) earlier in the week.
The match completes the quarter-final line-up in Toronto with as many as five Americans reaching the last eight, and at least two American beings assured to reach the last four.
