Shapovalov, Auger-Aliassime lead Canada to Davis Cup win over Argentina
Germany defeats Slovakia 3-0 to get their Finals 8 campaign off to a winning start
Denis Shapovalov and Felix Auger-Aliassime both won their singles matches on Tuesday to give Canada a 2-0 win over Argentina in Group D Davis Cup Finals Group Stage in Manchester with the doubles rubber still to be played.
In the first match of the tie, Shapovalov defeated Francisco Cerundolo 7-5, 6-3 in one hour and 37 minutes.
In the second match of the day, Auger-Aliassime eased past Sebastian Baez 6-3, 6-3 to give Canada the 2-0 victory.
Finaland and Great Britain are the other two teams playing in Group D in Manchester. The top two nations from each group will qualify for the Final 8, which will take place in Malaga in November.
Germany beat Slovakia 3-0 in Group C Davis Cup action
Meanwhile, in Group C action, Germany scored a 3-0 win over Slovakia in Zhuhai. In the first match, Maximilian Marterer defeated Lukas Klein 6-4 7-5 after which Yannick Hanfmann came from a set down to beat Jozef Kovalik 3-6 6-3 7-6(3).
The German duo of Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz scored a 7-5 6-3 victory over Klein and Igor Zelenay to give their country a 3-0 win.
USA and Chile are the other two countries playing in Zhuhai in Group C.
