Auger-Aliassime on opening round loss: “I knew it was going to be complicated”
The Canadian expressed his mental and physical fatigue after loss to the in-form Cobolli
Felix Auger-Aliassime was faced with a straight sets loss to Flavio Cobolli (6-3, 6-2) in his opening round loss at the Montreal Masters, where the Canadian hoped to kick of his North American hard court efforts. Auger-Aliassime’s serve was the main source of misery for the home country hero, with five doubles faults and only making 46 percent of his first serves.
The Canadian was asked about his serving performance after the match:
“There was a huge difference between my level last week in Paris and even the previous weeks with what I did today, especially with my serve. The surface explains it, but also the balls because we change balls at every tournament. I only had two days to get adjusted. I was not able to control the ball, very simply.”

Additionally, both the Canadian and the Italian have had recent success, with the former winning a mixed doubles bronze medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, and the latter making the Citi Open final in Washington. However, Auger-Aliassime commented upon his physical and mental fatigue after his efforts in Paris last week:
“I can’t say I was very fresh, either physically nor mentally. It was quite complicated, but it’s not an excuse. I can’t just come here saying, I should have done this and that. I knew it was going to be a challenge. It didn’t go my way, but that’s the way it is, and now I’m going to move on.”
