Atlanta: Goffin beats Shapovalov in battle of former top 10 players to reach second round
The Belgian will face the winner of the match between Christopher O’Connell and No 8 seed Max Purcell in the next round

In a battle of former top 10-ranked players, Belgian David Goffin scored a three-set win over Canadian wildcard Denis Shapovalov to move into the second round of the Atlanta Open on Monday evening.
Goffin needed two hours and seven minutes to beat Shapovalov 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 at the Atlanta Athletic Club.
The Belgian, ranked No 98 in the world currently, will face the winner of the match between Christopher O’Connell and No 8 seed Max Purcell next.
