“The Demon” Alex de Minaur will headline UTS3 in Antwerp this weekend
For its third edition, Ultimate Tennis Showdown will feature 6 spectacular tennis players, including Australia’s Alex de Minaur, who is the first to join this weekend’s field in Antwerp.
21-year-old Alex de Minaur, current ATP No 29, is coming to UTS 3. The fan favorite from Australia is the first to sign on to this weekend’s six-player field, which will commence round robin play on Friday in Antwerp, ahead of next week’s European Open.
Alex de Minaur: Demon rising
Known for his lightning-quick footwork and never-say-die attitude, the Australian has quickly climbed the ATP rankings, thanks to three titles in 2019 and a career-best performance at last month’s US Open. In 2018, after rising from outside the top 200 to inside the top 40 as a teenager, De Minaur was named the ATP’s “Newcomer of the Year.” In 2019, the Aussie continued his ascent. He won his first three ATP titles in Sydney, Atlanta and Zhuhai.
De Minaur, who made his top 20 debut earlier this season, is the youngest player to play back-to-back ATP semi-finals since Rafael Nadal in 2006, and the third player to ever win an ATP title without facing a break point (since the tour started keeping this stat in 1991), which he did in Atlanta in 2019.
“The Demon” is a hot ticket wherever he goes because of his explosive movement and jaw-dropping speed. He is regularly mentioned alongside Gael Monfils in the “fastest player on tour” debate.
De Minaur will soon be joined by five more top ATP pros in this weekend’s field in Antwerp. All sessions will be played at night, with two groups of three players contesting round robin play on Friday and Saturday, and a final to be played in front of spectators on Sunday, October 18th.
Although the group stage will be played without the public in attendance, the fans who have tickets for the last day of the European Open qualifying draw will have the chance to watch the UTS final, which will take place after the qualifying matches. The other 5 players to compete in UTS3 will be announced shortly. Fans can catch all UTS live matches, replays, highlights and exclusive content on UTS Live (https://watch.utslive.tv).
