Japanese Taro Daniel moved into the second round of the Shanghai Masters by edging out Belarusian qualifier Egor Gerasimov 6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-4 at the Qi Zhong Tennis Center.

Daniel, ranked No 91, will play top seed Jannik Sinner next.
