French wildcard Richard Gasquet beat Kazakh Alexander Shevchenko 6-4, 6-4 to advance to the second round of the Qatar Open at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex in Doha on Tuesday afternoon.
Gasquet, ranked No 126, will face top seed Andrey Rublev next.
