“Super-easy, I sucked”: Medvedev after failing to serve out epic match with Djokovic at ATP Finals
The Russian admitted he “sucked” after failing to serve out the match
A gutted Daniil Medvedev said there were “no positives” to take from going so close to beating Novak Djokovic at the ATP Finals in Turin on Friday.
The Russian served for the match at 5-4 in the third before going down 6-3, 6-7 (5), 7-6 (2) to the Serb, his third defeat in a final-set tiebreak this week.
“No, that’s my answer, sorry,” Medvedev said, when asked if there as anything good he could take out of the match. “I mean, I guess was a good fight, but no positives, no.”
Medvedev rued a poor serving game at 5-4 in the third, which let Djokovic, who had been struggling to that point, back in.
“Super easy, I sucked,” he said. “That’s what happened. It’s disaster. What I’m really happy is that this match didn’t count in going out of the group, otherwise I would have two matches where I lost serving for the match. At least this one didn’t count.
“But, yeah, that’s awful. I’m going to try to be better next time. I have no other choice.”
