Montpellier Open: Barrere makes quarter-finals, Rune next
Gregoire Barrere won against Nikoloz Basilashvili 6-3, 6-4 on Thursday evening and will face Dane Holger Rune, the top seed, in the next round
Frenchman Gregoire Barrere reached the last eight of the Montpellier Open by winning against Georgian Nikoloz Basilashvili 6-3, 6-4 at the Sud de France Arena on Thursday evening.
Barrere, ranked No 75, will play Dane Holger Rune, the top seed, next.
The Frenchman edged out Kazakh Alexander Bublik, the No 6 seed (6-4, 6-7 (12), 7-6 (3)) ahead of his victory. He is in the best form of his career with a recent win at the Quimper challenger.
Barrere is used to perform in France : his two previous quarter-finals on the Tour were at Metz (2019) and Montpellier (2020).
In the previous round of the Montpellier tournament, Basilashvili, ranked No 87, won his first match in 2023? defeating Frenchman Constant Lestienne (6-7 (3), 7-5, 6-2).
