Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime, the second seed, won against Frenchman Arthur Cazaux 6-4, 7-6 (5) to reach the quarter-finals of the Montpellier Open at the Sud de France Arena on Wednesday evening.

The match got off to the worst possible start for the Frenchman, being broken in his opening service game. This break would be enough for Auger-Aliassime, with the Canadian not having to face a break point on his own serve – serving out the set 6-4.

In the second set, the former No 6 broke once again, but Cazaux would not make the same mistake twice, and broke back on his first break point of the match.

The second set tiebreak had seven mini-breaks in total, with the Candian hitting an inside-out forehand winner to clinch the straight-sets win.

Auger-Aliassime, ranked No 23, will play Chinese Yunchaokete Bu, the No 8 seed, next.

In the previous round of the Montpellier tournament, Cazaux, ranked No 101, beat Swiss wildcard Stan Wawrinka (6-4, 6-3).
