Mexican Open: Paul withdraws sending Giron into quarter-finals

Marcos Giron benefited from the withdrawal of Tommy Paul on Wednesday. He’ll play the winner of the match between Canadian Denis Shapovalov, the No 9 seed, and American Alex Michelsen in the next round

Marcos Giron moved into the last eight of the Mexican Open after No 3 seed Tommy Paul withdrew before the match at the Arena GNP Seguros in Acapulco on Wednesday.

Giron, ranked No 52, will face the winner of the match between Canadian Denis Shapovalov, the No 9 seed, and American Alex Michelsen next.

In the previous round of the Acapulco tournament, Marcos Giron defeated Australian qualifier Adam Walton (7-6 (4), 6-2).

Paul, ranked No 10, won against Canadian qualifier Gabriel Diallo (6-2, 6-2) during the first round of the Acapulco tournament.
