Mats Wilander predicts Murray to launch Djokovic towards 25th Grand Slam
The Swedish tennis star believes the coaching move will reinvigorate Djokovic next season
Novak Djokovic‘s appointment of Andy Murray to the head coaching position within his team took nearly everyone by surprise, but tennis legend Mats Wilander believes that the Serb can still get his hands on that elusive 25th Grand Slam title.
Speaking to Eurosport, Wilander said:
“With Andy Murray helping him, I say that he still thinks he can win Grand Slam tournaments in 2025, and maybe even 2026. What Andy can do is that he can tell Novak things that maybe Novak already knows, but Andy has played against all of these players that Novak will face. Andy has seen them, practiced with them, he has talked to the likes of Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, Medvedev, Tsitsipas, Zverev, and he will have – not secrets – but other opinions about these guys’ games. Andy Murray will be an excellent coach, he understands how hard you have to work, he understands how hard you can work, and still be in top shape physically on court.”
“Andy Murray knows how to peak, because if you win the Olympic Gold two times, and win Wimbledon two times – and you are from Great Britain – you understand how to be at your best at the most crucial times.”

The Swede continued by saying:
“Both had the same kind of behaviour towards their coaching box, which looked like it was them complaining – or it could have just been explaining way they are feeling. When you watch their relationships with their coaches during matches, I think they were very similar, so it’ll be interesting to see how Andy Murray will react when Novak Djokovic looks and throws his arms up and says something like ‘what am i supposed to do now?’. It’s going to be one of the most entertaining and interesting player-coach relationships, between Novak and Andy.”
